Our Story

Growing up as a self proclaimed "theatre kid" in Guelph, I was desperate for opportunities to act, sing, and dance. I often found myself begging my parents to drive me out of town for different classes, camps, and training programs (which they gladly did, thanks Mom!) I always wished that there were more opportunities in my own city to learn.

My passion led me to study music theatre performance at St Lawrence College, and after graduating, I returned to Guelph where I started teaching theatre classes again. Although I taught throughout high school, with my new knowledge and skills, I found more passion in teaching than ever! However, I always wished I had more time with my students to hone their skills, teach them technique at a slower pace, and polish their performances.

That's when I decided to start Guelph Youth Theatre Academy! My goal in creating GYTA is to bring quality theatre classes to kids in their own city of Guelph. Our classes are designed to allow students time to dig deeper into the world of theatre, make connections with others, and feel a sense of belonging! These are the classes I wish I had as a youth with a passion for performing, and I can't wait to make that dream come true for kids in Guelph today!
